Finding Inspiration at @TrueIndianHair’s TrueBeautyBrunch

On Sunday, May 6th, we attended True Indian Hair‘s 2nd Annual Beauty Brunch at their showroom in midtown Manhattan. Before we arrived, we had a pretty good feeling that we would be surrounded by beautiful people discussing hair and beauty. What we did not know is that we would leave the brunch extremely motivated, encouraged, inspired, and in awe of all of the success and sickening beauty we were engulfed in during our time there!

TrueBeautyBrunchLet me educate you all a bit about the True Indian Hair brand and why it is such a fabulous company.

Founded in 2005 by Karen Mitchell (who is gorgeous!), the True Indian Hair (TIH) Franchise is a company that connects “image-conscious career women with easy-to-care for luxury extensions.” Mitchell, who was such a gracious hostess at the Beauty Brunch, started TIH after leaving her position as a production manager at Aeropostale, and since then TIH has become a force in the hair/beauty industry with features in major publications as well as keeping all of the trendy celebs’ hair laid for the gods! While you sit around admiring Cassie, Kelly Rowland, the Queen Bee Lil Kim, and others, remember that Karen Mitchell and her team hooked those ladies up!

My Relationship with TED.

When I get home from work, the gym, or dinner and I cannot think of anything to do, I watch TED talks. I watch them because they make me think critically, they inspire me, and one day LB and I will be giving a TED talk (or two) and I want to make sure we don’t repeat anything that has already been said.

Because I think that you all should stop watching the idiot box and start feeding your mind with thought-provoking mental nutrition, I have curated a short list of some of the TED talks that I have enjoyed. Of course I have been inspired by a ton more, but baby steps. I’ve got to wean y’all off of “Basketball Wives” as to not send you into shock.

Poetic Vision, Purpose, Passion, etc.

I like sharing things that inspire me with you all. It makes my quest for sainthood easier. Here it goes…

On January 1st of this year, I was conversing with a young woman about my life. After explaining to her that I am currently on the science/academia career track and have no strong passion for what I am currently doing, she asked me what in God’s name did I want to do with myself if I wasn’t happy with my career now. Reasonable question. In response, for the first time ever, I articulated my true passion with ease. I soon realized that my passion equals my purpose and since I knew what it was that I want and need to be doing with my life, it is about time I take all the necessary steps to fulfilling said purpose.

In pursuit of getting my shit together, I remembered a video I watched during the Christmas holiday with my sister. At the end of the video lecture, we both applauded – it was not a live stream, Skype, or on any platform in which the speaker could actually hear and appreciate our applause. You know you just watched something good when you give a standing ovation to a laptop.

Anyway, watch the video below. Sister-friend Sharon Ann Lee drops knowledge on how to design your own success, do things that make you money and make you happy, and write your poetic vision. It is quite a long video, but you know you weren’t really doing anything right now anyway.

Stay Creative

Flaneurs! Dahlings!

Happy Monday. Happy MLK Day. Happy 16th of January.

Since I am enjoying the holiday in Dirty Jersey with my 5 y/o and 1 y/o cousins, I cannot find time (or space) to write a properly, well thought out posts for y’all. However, instead of leaving you high and dry, I figured I’d give you a little somethin’ somethin’.

As you may have realized, Le Femme Flaneur is all about inspiration, motivation, curating life, and slaying hoes. We like to keep a constant flow of positive energy and creativity in our lives. During my winter vacation I found a little gem of inspiration on one of my favorite websites, Behind The Hustle. Because I care for you, I figured it would be nice for me to pass the jewel along.

Introductory Course: Slay Hoes

LB and I slay hoes on the regular. It is a major part of our relationship. If you follow either LB or me on Twitter, you will have seen us use the phrase “slay hoes” ad nauseam.  “Slay” seems to be a term that is getting thrown around all willy-nilly nowadays and has taken on various meanings in pop culture. I am here to inform you that all the other meanings of “slay” are irrelevant and the only definition you need to be aware of is the Le Femme Flaneur one.

In this post, I will tell you what the term “slay hoes” means to us. I will also provide you with information on how to slay, where to slay, and when to slay.

You don’t have to thank me. I do it because it’s my civic duty as a flaneur.
